Always learning: my CIBTAC Level 4 Microneedling achievement

I am delighted to share that I have passed my CIBTAC Level 4 Microneedling qualification, achieving 99% in my practical assessment and 84% in my theory examination, alongside 120 hours of case study work.

It has taken dedication, study and plenty of practice, and I am incredibly proud of the result. But the most valuable part is the deeper knowledge I bring back to the treatment room.

Why keep learning?

I qualified as a beauty therapist in 2004 and opened Roberta Beauty Redefined in 2008. Even after all these years, I believe there is always more to learn.

Skin care continues to develop, and experience and education should grow together. Further training gives me the opportunity to question, refine and strengthen my approach, so that every treatment recommendation is thoughtful and individual.

For me, education is about much more than adding another treatment to the menu. It is about understanding why we choose a treatment, when it may be appropriate and when a different approach is needed.

What happens beyond the practical treatment?

The practical technique is only one part of professional microneedling. My studies explored consultation, skin assessment, anatomy and physiology, wound healing, health and safety, contraindications, treatment planning and aftercare.

Understanding these areas helps inform the decisions made before, during and after an appointment. Knowing when to adapt, postpone or decline a treatment is just as important as knowing how to carry it out.

What 120 hours of case studies taught me

Case studies gave me time to put theory into practice, assess different skin concerns, document treatments and review progress over time. They reinforced something I have always believed: no two clients are the same.

Skin, lifestyle, expectations and home care all deserve attention. A personalised plan starts with listening and continues with careful observation and review.

The Dermalogica PRO Pen 2

Professional equipment matters alongside knowledge and technique. The Dermalogica PRO Pen 2 offers adjustable depth and speed settings, allowing treatment to be tailored within the relevant professional protocol.

The Dermalogica PRO Pen Microneedling System, used with its specified 14 pin cartridge, is a Class II, FDA 510(k) cleared medical device for improving the appearance of facial acne scars in adults aged 22 and over. The accurate term is FDA cleared. This clearance relates to that specific use and does not mean that every microneedling treatment has FDA clearance.

Beyond the face: body, hair and scalp

Dermalogica also has professional protocols for the hands and body, where treatment may be considered for concerns such as the appearance of stretch marks, scars and uneven skin texture. The area, skin condition and treatment goals all need individual assessment.

Scalp revitalisation is another area of professional microneedling, with Dermalogica protocols focused on scalp care and healthier looking, fuller looking hair. It is not a guaranteed solution for hair loss. Hair thinning can have different causes, so a consultation helps establish whether treatment is appropriate or medical advice is needed first.

Scalp and body applications are separate from the device’s FDA clearance for facial acne scars. Any treatment must be appropriate to my training, professional scope, insurance and the manufacturer’s guidance.

What this means for your visit

My aim is for you to feel informed, comfortable and involved in your treatment choices. We will discuss your concerns, assess suitability and talk honestly about what to expect, including preparation, recovery and aftercare. There should always be space for questions and realistic expectations.

Thank you to my case study models for your time and trust, and to everyone who has supported me throughout this qualification. I look forward to bringing this further learning into your care at Roberta Beauty Redefined.

If you would like to explore whether microneedling is suitable for your skin or discuss body and scalp options, please contact the salon to arrange a consultation.
